As a general rule, our meat will always have an expiry date of at least three days from the date of delivery. Other ingredients' freshness can vary but are all designed to last the week.
We'd advise you to plan your meals with the freshness of items in mind, using products such as fish with shorter expiry dates at the start of the week. Check the recipe cards for any eat me first or eat me early messages which are there as a guide to consuming your recipes.
If you wish, you can freeze your meat for up to three months, as long as you do so before the use-by date.

Here at HelloFresh, our focus is on fresh, seasonal ingredients, and making sure all produce leaving our warehouse is up to the high standards we expect.
Some ingredients such as our Chicken is vacuum sealed for freshness purposes. During this process oxygen is removed from the packaging which can cause an eggy smell. If you allow it to sit for a few minutes the smell should pass.
If the smell does not pass or the ingredient you received is damaged or poor quality, please contact us. We take all these cases seriously.
We do ask you to provide photos of these items so we can investigate any problems thoroughly with our Suppliers.
At HelloFresh, we believe that everyone deserves fresh food straight from the source - and that starts with our suppliers. Our in-house team works hard everyday to foster close relationships with honest and trustworthy suppliers to source beautiful, quality ingredients for your best dinner yet. Because knowing where your food comes from is just as important as how it tastes. Most of our meat, as well as a selection of vegetables, baked goods and dairy products are 100% local!
We maintain close relationships with our suppliers to ensure that the ingredients we supply to our customers are of the highest possible quality and the perfect fit for our delicious recipes.
HelloFresh has a variety of recipes that could potentially contain an allergen. Ingredients are stored separately in order to minimize cross-contamination.
Most ingredients pass through HelloFresh to the customer sealed in the packages they were received in, however, there is a small chance of cross-contamination so we cannot guarantee that a recipe is free of a particular allergen.
At the moment we do not offer specific allergy preferences. But we do list all of the allergens on our recipe cards, and on the website when you are selecting your recipes. We highlight specific ingredients that contain one or more of the 14 major allergens: celery, cereals containing gluten (such as wheat, rye, barley, and oats), crustaceans (such as prawns, crabs and lobsters), eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs (such as mussels and oysters), mustard, peanuts, sesame, soybeans, sulphur dioxide and sulphites (if the sulphur dioxide and sulphites are at a concentration of more than ten parts per million) and tree nuts
We leave it to our customers to review the ingredients and determine which recipes best suit their dietary needs.
All of our ingredients are labelled on our upcoming recipes and our ingredient packaging so you can see exactly what’s going into your recipes to make your meal choice.
However, as our suppliers and packing team handle such a wide range of ingredients, we cannot guarantee that no traces of other allergens may be present. For this reason, we do not offer a gluten free or dairy free preference.
Some of our suppliers are certified organic and we plan to explore more moving forward, but the most important factor to us when sourcing ingredients for our customers is that we work with specialist suppliers who engage in sustainable practices, and that we focus on flavour, making sure we bring our customers the most delicious ingredients possible.
Sourcing fresh produce is our bread and butter and our supply team is really confident that our suppliers source for us not only the best quality, but also ethical and sustainable produce.
We want to make it easier than ever to eat sustainably. 'Climate Conscious' recipes have the smallest carbon footprint of the weekly menu and produce 50% less emissions.
To help you make informed decisions when choosing your weekly menu, we've measured the environmental impact of our recipes by looking at the CO2 equivalents (CO2e) emitted. CO2e focuses on all greenhouse gases that have a global warming potential (including methane and carbon dioxide) rather than just CO2, to give a more accurate measure of their environmental impact.
HowGood is the world’s largest product and ingredient sustainability database and has partned with HelloFresh to help us measure the CO2e impact of the ingredients used for our recipes.
Best-before date (BBD): This date indicates how long a product retains its best quality (e.g., taste, consistency, appearance). After this date, the quality may decline, but the product is not necessarily spoiled. You can check by looking, smelling and tasting. Typical examples are dry pasta, rice or canned goods. The label usually reads "best before".
Use-by date: This date can be found on perishable foods and indicates the last day a product can be safely eaten. Consumption after this date can be risky. Therefore, we strongly advise against eating products past their use-by date. Examples include fresh meat or fresh fish. The label reads "use by". Always follow storage instructions and check the dates carefully to ensure the safety and quality of your food.
Fresh herbs add the finishing touch to any dish. To ensure that the flavour and fragrance last for longer, proper storage is important. Here are some useful tips on how to best store herbs: Chives, thyme, and rosemary should be stored in the warmest part of the refrigerator in the packaging provided. Treat parsley and coriander like bouquets. Trim the ends and place in a small glass filled with a little water. Protect from direct sunlight to prevent wilting. The optimal temperature for all herbs is between 3-5°C. Find extra freshness tips for storing delicate ingredients here.
