Cheddar cheese sauce recipe
Cheddar cheese sauce is a delicious addition to pasta, vegetables, meat dishes, casseroles and bakes. If you want to make your own cheddar cheese sauce at home, follow these steps.
To make cheddar cheese sauce for pastas and other recipes, you’ll need:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons plain flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
Firstly, melt the butter in a pan over medium heat.
- Add your flour and whisk for a few minutes until your mixture is light and golden. Slowly pour in the milk, whisking continuously to prevent it from going lumpy. Cook this for around five minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Reduce heat to low. Gradually stir in one cup of grated cheddar cheese. Continue stirring until the mixture is melted and smooth.
If you want to give the cheese sauce a bit of extra flavour and kick, try stirring in 1/2 teaspoon of mustard powder and 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder.
