Cooking steps

Get Prepped
1
  • Preheat your oven to 220°C/200°C fan/gas mark 7.
  • Cut the butter into small cubes (refrigerate until ready to use if they become too soft).
  • Peel, core and quarter the apples. Cut the quarters into 1 cm cubes.
  • Peel, core and chop the pear.
  • Roughly chop or bash the hazelnuts.
Make the Crumble
2
  • Place a pan over medium-high heat with a knob of butter.
  • Add the apple and pear, along with half the cinnamon and 1 tsp sugar.
  • Cook until the fruit is lightly caramelised and softened, 6-7 mins.
  • Meanwhile, in a bowl mix the hazelnuts, 120g flour, remaining sugar, cinnamon to taste and a pinch of salt.
  • Add the cold butter cubes. Use your fingertips to mix together until you have a crumbly texture that clumps together when pressed, 2-3 mins.
Bake and Serve
3
  • Arrange the fruit in an appropriately-sized oven dish.
  • Sprinkle an even layer of crumble over the fruit.
  • Bake until the crumble is golden and the fruit is tender, 30-40 mins. If the topping browns too quickly, cover the baking dish with aluminium foil.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving, topped with blueberry jam.

TIP: Have kids help sprinkle the crumble over the top.
