How Long to Cook a Turkey
The cooking time for your turkey will depend on its weight. A useful rule of thumb for calculating how long to cook a turkey is to allocate 20 minutes per kilogram plus an additional 70 minutes for a 2–3.9 kg turkey or 90 minutes for a 4–10 kg turkey.
These estimates typically apply to unstuffed turkeys, so be sure to factor in the stuffing weight for accurate cooking time.
Remember, when it comes to cooking any meat recipes, including chicken, beef or pork, to ensure safety, we recommend using a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of your food has reached its peak before eating. If the core temperature (where the turkey is thickest) is 60°C for 45 minutes, 65°C for 10 minutes, 70°C for two minutes, 75°C for 30 seconds and 80°C for six seconds, then it has reached its perfect temperature.
