How to Cook Kale
Full of nutrients with a hearty texture, kale is a versatile leafy green that can be prepared in various ways to suit your taste buds. Whether you're indulging in the rising trend of kale chips or craving classic sautéed kale, this green veggie can cater to a range of recipes. It’s particularly popular in vegan recipes and vegetarian recipes.
To cook your kale recipe, start by preparing your kale. You can do this by rinsing it with cold water and removing any tough stems. Next, choose a cooking method:
Sauteed Kale
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil or a knob of butter.
- Once the oil is hot, add the prepared kale leaves to the skillet.
- Sautee the kale for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the leaves are wilted and tender.
- Season with salt, pepper, and any other herbs or spices.
Steamed Kale
- Fill a pot with a few inches of water and bring it to a boil.
- Place a steamer basket in the pot and add the kale leaves to the basket.
- Cover the pot with a lid and steam the kale for 5-7 minutes —or until it is tender but still vibrant green.
- Remove the kale from the steamer basket and season to taste.
Baked Kale Chips:
- Preheat your oven to 175°C.
- Tear the kale leaves into bite-sized pieces and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Drizzle the kale with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and any other seasonings.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes —or until the kale chips are crispy and slightly golden brown. Kale chips can burn easily, so be sure to keep checking as they cook.
